"Smoke Eaters Banquet 2023"
In 1847 the Dunnville Fire Department was formed. So it was fitting on the heels of our 175th Anniversary in 2022 that the Dunnville Fire Fighters recently celebrated our 96th annual Smoke Eaters Banquet on February 4th. This is one of our long standing events where we celebrate service awards that our firefighters achieve each year. This year we celebrated over 400 years of service.
We were very honoured to have in attendance once again this year, past fire chief and Padre, Gerry McCarthy, who lead us in grace while attending his 66th consecutive Smoke Eaters Banquet. Gerry began his long career back in 1956 and has been the stations most passionate and longest serving ambassador. Gerry also continues to attend every Decoration Day that is held annually each spring, and his presence inspires everyone to continue serving our community with pride and honour!
A great night was had by all firefighters and senators as the camaraderie of brotherhood celebrated once again the history and pride of firefighting in the town of Dunnville.
